The Kinesio Tex Tape Story

Already in use for over 30 years, Kinesio® Tex Tape gained worldwide attention at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where numerous athletes sported the colorful sports tape on various parts of their bodies. Since then, Kinesio Tape has become a favorite of both amateur and professional athletes around the world to recover from injuries with less down time and loss of function. In the medical field, KinesioTape and the Kinesio Taping Method are now used in therapy clinics, chiropractic offices and hospitals as part of a therapeutic regimen after injuries, illnesses or surgery.

KinesioTape has the same thickness and elasticity as human skin. It is very stretchable, with 140% elasticity–which makes it comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time. Therapeutically, Kinesio Tex® Tape, can relieve pain from both acute injuries and chronic conditions, as well as reduce swelling and inflammation.

The Kinesio Taping Method™ is an approach to therapeutic taping that involves taping over and around muscles and joints, rather than wrapping them tightly as conventional athletic taping does. This increases circulation to the injured area, as well as lymphatic drainage, which reduces swelling, bruising and pressure on sensitive pain receptors. When worn continuously, Kinesio Tape can accelerate the healing process and limit down time. The elasticity of KinesioTape allows it to provide support without restricting range of motion, an important feature for injured athletes who wish to continue training as they recover from their injuries.

Kinesio Tape is made of 100% high grade cotton for comfort and breathability, and contains no latex or medications. The backing contains a light, medical-grade adhesive made of 100% hypoallergenic acrylic. The adhesive is heat-activated – simply apply to the skin and rub briskly to activate. It is easily removed and leaves no sticky residue. Moisture dissipates quickly through the porous material of the tape, allowing it to withstand sweating, showering and even swimming without coming off or irritating skin. Unlike traditional athletic tape, most Kinesio Tape applications can be worn for 3-5 days. This allows the therapeutic benefits to continue, 24 hours per day.
